What You Need to Start Off-Roading

Savage Club Starter Guide for New Desert Drivers

If you're new to the world of off-roading, welcome to the adventure! Before you hit the dunes, it’s essential to equip yourself with the right tools — not only for safety but also to make your experience smooth, fun, and responsible. At Savage Club, we make sure every member is prepared, and here’s a breakdown of the essential gear every beginner should have:

🟧 Flagpole with Suitable Bracket

A flagpole with a bright flag is a must in the desert. It increases visibility, especially over dunes, making it easier for other drivers to spot you. It should be mounted with a strong bracket on your rear bumper or roof rack.

🛠 Recovery Points (Front and Back)

Before joining any trip, ensure your vehicle has proper front and rear recovery points. These are critical if you get stuck and need to be pulled out. Factory tow hooks or aftermarket rated hooks are a must — no recovery without them!

🏁 Kinetic Rope and Soft Shackles

Used for recovery, kinetic ropes stretch under load, making the recovery process smoother and safer. Soft shackles are safer and lighter than metal ones and are used to connect the rope to recovery points.

🔧 Tyre Deflator & Pressure Gauge

Lowering your tire pressure improves grip and control in the sand. A deflator allows you to air down quickly, while a gauge ensures you're hitting the correct PSI for the terrain.

💨 Air Compressor

After the fun ends, you’ll need to re-inflate your tires before hitting the road again. A portable air compressor is a must-have and can save you a lot of time and hassle.

📻 Radio – Channel Mode (Type C)

Communication is key in the desert. A two-way radio helps you stay in touch with the convoy, receive instructions, and respond in case of emergencies. Savage Club uses Channel Mode Type C for all drives.
